fostering the economic, social, and scientific development of Jilin Province. “The Outstanding Foreign Expert Award was actually for 2020 but was not awarded that year [to me] due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. I was not expecting it, so it was a shocking surprise when it was awarded to me a few days after my return to China,” related Mr. Pagaduan.
Mr. Pagaduan has been a faculty member at Jilin University-Lambton College in China for thepast seven years. During his tenure, he has taught various subjects such as Reading and Writing,
Listening and Speaking, Academic English, and Business Communication.
Reflecting on his education at Wesleyan University-Philippines, where he graduated with the Highest Academic Distinction, Mr. Pagaduan credits his alma mater for shaping him into a reflective educator. This training has enabled him to effectively address the learning needs and gaps of his Chinese students, allowing him to implement innovative teaching strategies acquired at Wesleyan University-Philippines.
Before his current role, Mr. Pagaduan served as a faculty member at the Junior High School of Wesleyan University-Philippines for three years from 2012 to 2015. He taught English, Speech and Drama, and the Practical Spoken English Program to students in Grades 7 and 8.
“Sir Philip, as we, his former colleagues, and former students typically addressed him, was a creative, devoted, and talented faculty. He would always make sure that his students not only learn in his classes but also make them enjoy and love the experience of learning. In his teaching career at WUP, he was always on the list of those who topped the student’s evaluations at the Junior High School. His students and colleagues always held him in high regard. Knowing that he received this kind of recognition was not a surprise,” said Mr. Mark Alvin dela Cruz, former HS Language Department Coordinator.
