Wesleyan celebrates ‘Buwan ng Wika’

August 31, 2017

The Wesleyan community through the Language and Literature Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) celebrated “Buwan ng Wika” with a program at the University Gymnasium last August 31.

In his address, Dr. Michael P. Fronda, CAS dean, announced that Filipino subjects will still be included in the General Education curriculum.

It can be remembered that Filipino language advocates had filed petitions with the Commission on Higher Education to maintain Filipino courses in the collegiate level which were excluded in the commission’s memo concerning the new General Education curriculum.

Dr. Elgin Paguirigan, coordinator of the Language and Literature Department, focused her speech on the theme “Filipino: Wikang Mapagbago” saying that the essence of the celebration is for the preservation and evolution of the Mother Language. That, she said, is what makes Filipinos united as a nation. ###
