SHS Alumni class 2019 leads Green University Movement

Wesleyan University-Philippines Senior High School Alumni Association class of 2019, in partnership with WU-P Alumni Affairs Office, led a campus tree-planting activity dubbed as “Green University Movement” on July 12, 2019.

“Green University Movement”, is a university-wide tree-planting activity which aims to make Wesleyan University-Philippines the first carbon-neutral campus in Nueva Ecija. The activity was attended by the University President Benjamin D. Turgano, Wesleyan faculty and staff, students, WU-P ROTC unit, Class 2019 headed by Ms. Vibelle Vergara, Shell Cabanatuan, WU-P Alumni Association President, Ronald Castillo, and the SHS 2019 Alumni class officers themselves.

A total of 220 different varieties of tree seedlings from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) were planted within the university vicinity.

Mr. Henry Cocoy Nacpil, Director of Alumni Affairs, hopes to make the “Green University Movement” a continuing university activity. This activity is also a response to approved House Bill 8728, or the "Graduation Legacy for the Environment Act” requiring at least 10 trees to be planted by each graduating elementary, high school, and college student.
