Three CAS faculty members: Professors Ferman Lazatin, Jay Errol Baral, and Emmanuel John Pangan  underwent training on how to teach qualitative research in Psychology which was held at Centennial Building, University of Baguio last January 31 to February 2, 2019.

The workshop dubbed as “How to Teach Field Methods: a Workshop on Qualitative Research in Psychology ran for three days and was intended for teachers to teach qualitative research particularly those handling field methods in Psychology in the undergraduate level.

Dr. Nico Canoy, one of the facilitators from Ateneo de Manila University, urged teachers to shift from focusing too much on quantitative research and rediscover the beauty of qualitative research. He described qualitative research by citing Sandelowski, 1993: “[Qualitative Research is] evocative, true to life and meaningful portraits, stories, and landscapes of human experience.”

The event was organized by the Psychological Association of the Philippines in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education; Psychology Department, University of Baguio; and ADMU.

Messrs. Lazatin, Baral, and Pangan are now organizing to echo their workshop in a faculty exchange for the College of Arts and Sciences.
