October 22, 2018

“Do your best and compete with the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play,” OSA Director and Sports Commission Chairman Efraim S. Vidal, Jr. addressed the Wesleyan family as he gave the opening remarks in the “Palarong Wesleyan” 2018 held at Wesleyan University-Philippines Gymnasium.

With the theme “Virtues and Excellence, One in Sports,” the Palarong Wesleyan marked the day as each College’s team players paraded around Wesleyan ground to officially start the week-long event.

The parade ended at WU-P gymnasium with the entrance of players; yells from the crowd echoed in the Gymnasium as the Wesleyanians cheered for their college teams.

Solemnity sealed the event as Rev. Francisco Fajardo, University Chaplain, led the opening prayer. The Wesleyan Chamber singers gave honor to country and Wesleyan when they sang the National Anthem and Wesleyan Hymn. The Wesleyan Dance Troupe in a spectacular dance number was a refreshing treat to the crowd.

“Sports activities are indispensable,” VPAA Leonita P. Garcia said as she pertained to the “Palarong Wesleyan” which according to her, “is an opportunity for individual development, social development and leadership skills development”.

The traditional banner raising by the college Deans, Oath of Sportsmanship and Torch passing and lighting executed by each college team’s captain made the spirit of sportsmanship soar high.

The College of Hotel and Tourism Management claimed the victory for Binibining Palaro 2018, while College of Arts and Sciences bagged the Ginoong Palaro 2018 title.
