Physical Therapy Program achieves 100% passing rate

Wesleyan University-Philippines Physical Therapy board takers achieved a 100 per cent passing rate in the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission last February 7.

Prof. Jacinto Jose Gapud, Physical Therapy Program head, remarked, “Words are not enough to express how I felt when I heard that Wesleyan got a 100% passing rate… I was overjoyed to see our students’ names in the roster of board passers.”

University Clinic launches seminar vs. teen pregnancy, HIV

The University Clinic headed by Dr. Christian Salazar partnered with the Provincial Health Office for a seminar on teenage pregnancy and HIV awareness among high school students at the University Gymnasium last February 6.

Jhoana Marie Manansala, Provincial HIV Coordinator and Health Education and Promotion Officer II, lectured on the risks of early pregnancy.

“Tandaan ang ERASE para makaiwas sa maagang pagbubuntis,” she advised the participants.

HR Director Pascua to midyear grads: ‘Trust, a factor for career success’

Some 120 candidates for graduation listened to the message of Wesleyan Human Resources and Development chief, Dr. Abraham Pascua, during the First Semester, Academic Year 2017-18 Commencement Exercises held last January 26 in the University Gymnasium.

In his speech, Pascua emphasized the “often forgotten factor for career success”, advising the graduates to find employers who can trust them -- ithen build on that trust.

Aniag leads cornerstone laying

University President Pacifico B. Aniag led the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone for new buildings that will soon rise on the space occupied by former Agriculture Building last January 24.

Also present at the rites were Dr. Glenn Roy Paraso, chair of the Board of Trustees; Engr. Ferdinand Bote, chair of the BOT Committee on Infrastructure and Environment; Bishop Pedro Torio, Jr. of the Baguio Episcopal Area; Bishop Ciriaco Francisco of the Manila Episcopal Area; Bishop Rodolfo Juan of the Davao Episcopal Area; Prof. Eufemia Ayro, president of Wesleyan University-Philippines Faculty and Staff Association; and James Carl Alamani, Supreme Student Council president.

Pre-service teachers consecrated

Some 70 students of the College of Education (CoED) were consecrated last January 23 at the amphitheater and given their name badges.for their practice teaching.

Dr. Ramil Polintan, senior education program specialist of the Department of Education Division of Nueva Ecija, was the keynote speaker.

He told the students, “Practice teaching is a transformative experience.”

Friday fitness program kicks off

Friday nights will never be the same again. A Zumba Fitness class is held every Friday at the lobby of the University Auditorium

The fitness program that started last January 19 was initiated by the University Medical and Dental Clinic.

According to Judiliza Guinto-Velayo, staff nurse, “It is part of the components of a comprehensive, coordinated school health program which is the promotion of health among the University’s faculty and staff. Soon we will be extend this activity to our students.”

Genré wins in RHEPC

The Wesleyan central student publication, Genré, won sixth place in the overall performance of school papers in the 17th Regional Higher Education Press Conference held at Villa Alfredo’s Resort, City of San Fernando, Pampanga from January 16 to18.

Genré received the following awards:

For the tabloid edition: 3rd Place, Overall in the Tabloid Category;1st Place, Editorial and Opinion Pages: 2nd Place, Feature and Literary Pages: 3rd Place, Sports Page: 5th Place, Page Design; and 8th Place, DevCom Page

Christmas celebration at Wesleyan turns magical

As the clock struck six in the evening last December 20, the faculty and staff of Wesleyan University-Philippines turned into magical creatures inspired by Disney characters.

The University Christmas party dubbed “Magical Christmas” saw deans, heads, faculty and staff dressed as iconic characters from Walt Disney movies. 

The event was highlighted by competitions such as Christmas dance presentation, best costume and “Magical Royalties of the Night”.

Wesleyan lights up giant eco-Christmas tree

The Wesleyan community gathered at Plaza Acacia to participate in a Christian service that featured the hanging of wreaths and the lighting of the Christmas tree last November 29.

President Pacifico Aniag led the congregation in lighting the 30-foot high Christmas tree made of recyclable plastic bottles; Vice President for Academic Affairs Leonita Garcia in hanging the wreaths; and University Chaplain Rev. Francis Fajardo in reciting prayers.

Wesleyan to implement new curriculum in SY 2018-2019

As a result of the two-day Wesleyan Curriculum Summit last November 16 and 17, it was decided that new curricula for the different programs will be implemented starting the opening of School Year 2018-2019 in August next year.

Commission on Higher Education Region III Chief Education Specialist Lora Yusi, in her summit keynote speech, tackled the challenges and issues of the new educational system in the coming years in the light of the full implementation of the K to 12 program.
