IT Students qualify in TORO IT Elite Championship

Senior IT students were both confirmed championship qualifiers of TORO IT Elite Challenge in the System Administration category.

Raniel Gabriel and Shorouk El-zeany, competed and joined the online elimination last September 29, 2017 synchronized with other competitors from different schools in Central Luzon.  TORO will announce the schedule and details of the championship round very soon.

VPAA Garcia to Summer grads: ‘Never stop learning’

Dr. Leonita Garcia, vice president for Academic Affairs, who served as guest speaker of the Summer 2017  commencement exercises held last September 28, advised the graduates not to stop learning.

“You should not stop learning. You should not stop upgrading your competencies and you must do it with the same perseverance and determination that you have demonstrated over the last four or five years in college… You can come back to WUP for your Master’s degree, Doctor’s degree, or find opportunities for self-learning strategies be it formal, informal, or non-formal professional activities,” Garcia said.

Wesleyan, WUPFSA ink compromise agreement

The Wesleyan administration amicably settled labor disputes with the University union, WUP Faculty and Staff Association (WUPFSA), with the formal signing of a compromise agreement between University President Pacifico B. Aniag and the union president, Prof. Eufemia Ayro, at the President’s Office last September 27

Lawyer and John Wesley School of Law Dean JV Bautista said he had recommended to the Board of Trustees to enter into an amicable settlement with the union instead of going through the arbitration process.

New University physician named

Wesleyan President Pacifico B. Aniag has appointed Dr. Christian M. Salazar as the new University physician.

Salazar, 38, a native of Cabanatuan City, finished his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Our Lady of Fatima University after taking up Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at the University of Santo Tomas.

His specialty is Occupational Medicine with a diploma from the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine (PCOM) based at the Occupational Safety and Health Center in Quezon City.

IT students win in RAITE 2017 skills competitions

Selected BS Information Technology students of the College of Engineering and Computer Technology attended and successfully competed in selected events in the recently Regional Assembly on Information Technology Education (RAITE 2017) held last September 22 at the Baliuag Star Arena Gymnasium in Bulacan.

RAITE 2017 was organized by the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators-Region 3 Chapter and Student Society on Information Technology Education (SSITE)-Region 3.

It aimed to promote the latest and upcoming trends in the field of information and computing technology. Resource speakers invited to deliver plenary talks were from select IT companies all over the country. (Contributed by Dr. Randy Sansait.)

Transition: Prof. Anita Magbitang-Chauhan, 72

Lawyer Anita Magbitang‒Chauhan, professor of the John Wesley School of Law and Governance, passed away last September 22 at her home in Kapitan Pepe Subdivision, Cabanatuan City of cardio-pulmonary arrest though the antecedent cause was breast cancer with metastasis. She was 72 years old.

Chauhan was the director of the Wesleyan Research and Development Office and Communications Center from 1980 to 1981.

Known as a human rights lawyer and advocate, Chauhan was a visiting fellow of the University of Hong Kong where she once delivered a nine-hour lecture about human rights,

She received a Ford Foundation Fellowship at the, International Institute on Human Rights in Strasbourg, France in 1989 and from the Netherlands Fellowship Programme, Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands in 1992.

High school students taste campus politics

The High School Department organized a miting de avance and student election last September 6 for the Senior High School, and September 14 for the Junior High School.

Lyndon John de Leon, Senior High School program head, said, “It’s like a milestone of some sort kasi we’re making history. This is the first time that we are doing this in both of the grade levels.”

Wesleyan Elem, Junior/Senior High dominate ‘Grub Street 2017’

For the sixth time, the Wesleyan Elementary Department was hailed as the champion in the “2017 Grub Street” seminar-workshop on campus journalism held at Central Luzon State University in the Science City of Muñoz on September 8 and 9.

A total of 13 medals were brought home by The Graders -- the official student publication of Wesleyan’s Elementary Department -- composed of seven golds, four silvers and two bronzes, plus eight individual certificates.

Wesleyan celebrates ‘Buwan ng Wika’

The Wesleyan community through the Language and Literature Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) celebrated “Buwan ng Wika” with a program at the University Gymnasium last August 31.

In his address, Dr. Michael P. Fronda, CAS dean, announced that Filipino subjects will still be included in the General Education curriculum.
