Wesleyan’s New Buildings Inaugurated

Two four-storey buildings of Wesleyan University Philippines were inaugurated on December 5, 2019. The buildings, with forty-eight fully air-conditioned rooms, will soon house the College of Medicine which will open next school-year (2020-2021), and the Senior High School. Some offices are also en route to this new facility.

University President Judge Benjamin D. Turgano, together with the United Methodist Church Bishops Rodolfo Juan (Davao Episcopal Area), Ciriaco Francisco (Manila Episcopal Area), and Pedro M. Torio, Jr. (Baguio Episcopal Area), led the inauguration and consecration rites of the twin buildings.

Wesleyan School of Law ready for recognition

Legal Education Board Commissioner Abelardo T. Domondon visited Wesleyan University-Philippines to assess the required documents of John Wesley School of Law and Governance to qualify for government recognition.

In a meeting with School of Law Dean, Atty. Salvador B. Belaro, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Marietta B. Agustin, Acting Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Maridel Eslao, and members of the Law School faculty, Commissioner Domondon said JWSLG has already complied with all necessary requirements and that it is ready in its application for government recognition.

Wesleyan welcomes Vietnam and Indonesia students

Dong Nai Technology University, Vietnam and Universitas Islam Indonesia students who are participants of Passage to ASEAN Association (P2A) Immersion program visited Wesleyan University-Philippines to stay for one whole day in the campus. The students were housed at the Wesleyan Guest House for an easier and faster access of the campus activities and interaction with Wesleyan students who were in sports activities for a weeklong “Palarong Wesleyan”.

Nyuyen Ngoc Lynn Dan, the foreign students’ professor, said that the visit was a part of her students’ immersion program in response to the P2A’s pursuit of the “need for regional solidarity and a shared responsibility towards people and society as a whole”.

CECT students bag awards in SQUEEZE

Wesleyan University-Philippines bagged two awards in the recently concluded SQUEEZE, a two-day National EEE Competition and Convention for Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering students in the country.

The competition was consist of inter-collegiate quiz bee, circuit sprint, a skills competition where participants raced to construct various circuit based on set conditions and parameters,  and technological design, a competition for innovative and novelty research papers in the fields of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering.   

WU-P emerged as 2nd runner up in the circuit sprint competition. De La Salle University was held as champion, while Technological Institute of the Philippines was 1st runner up. In the technological design category, WU-P was 2nd runner up, while FEU-IIT placed 1st runner up and champion.

Wesleyan raises funds for Mindanao earthquake victims

Wesleyan University-Philippines raised funds for the earthquake victims of Mindanao through a benefit concert tagged as “Pagtugon at Malasakit”.

More than three hundred people from the community, employees, students and other stakeholders of Wesleyan responded by way of voluntary donations to the invitation for the concert. Several local officials, including Nueva Ecija Governor Aurelio M. Umali, gave their pledge to this fund-raising activity.

The Provincial Governor, represented by Atty. Jose Ma. Ceasar San Pedro, was the Guest of Honor. In his address, the Governor sent his greetings and appreciation to Wesleyan University-Philippines through the leadership of President Benjamin D. Turgano, for the genuine pagtugon and malasakit  to the victims of the calamity.

SWAN Prototype launched

A prototype of Severe Weather Amphibious Navigator (SWAN), a project funded by Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) and a collaborative project of Dr. Ryan de Lara of Wesleyan University-Philippines, Dr. Jaypee Pajarillaga of Holy Angel University, and Engr. Edgardo Santos of Don Honorio Ventura State University, was soft launched during the four-day celebration of 26th National Inventors’ Week and 2019 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits held at Central Luzon State University.

The SWAN prototype was presented by De Lara with engineers Jhunard Matitu, Johannna Marie Sudayon, Mark Jeremy Catacutan, Arvie Rose Habay Habay to DOST Secretary, Fortunato T. Dela Pena and DOST Region 3 Director,  Dr. Julius Ceasar V. Sicat.

WU-P Basketball Varsity beats NEUST in NECSL Season 8

Wesleyan University-Philippines Basketball team, Riders, beat Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) Phoenix to win the 2019 Nueva Ecija Collegiate Sports League (NECSL) Season 8 Finals.

WU-P Riders defeated NEUST Phoenix with a score of 88-77 in an overtime on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Araullo University gymnasium.

WU-P Riders’ Jeremy Ingusan was held Season 8 Most Valuable Player.

Wesleyan Graduate School holds Seminar for a Cause

Wesleyan Graduate School Supreme Student Council hosted a multidisciplinary seminar and seminar-for-a-cause dubbed as #Aware Ako_Wesleyan!, attended by more than five hundred Wesleyan graduate school students. A portion of the seminar’s proceeds was donated to Baby Zaff, a two-year-old baby who is scheduled this year for a liver transplant in India due to a disease called biliary atresia. More funds, according to Baby Zaff’s relatives, are still being raised for the child’s operation expenses.

Wesleyan University-Philippines partners with Hytec Power Inc. through a memorandum of agreement signed by both organizations in “Working Together in Producing High Performance Global Filipino Manpower and World-class Technopreneurs”.

Wesleyan President Judge Benjamin D. Turgano and Hytech Power Incorporated President and CEO Engr. Eric Jude S. Soliman signed the MOA on November 13, 2019.

Wesleyan Alumnus receives Carlos Palanca Award for Literature

Wesleyan alumnus, Alvin dela Serna Lopez, won third prize in poetry (English), for his “Departures” in the 69th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature held at The Peninsula Manila, Makati on November 8, 2019.

Alvin Lopez’ entry, “Departures”, is a collection of 11 poems with themes including physical, spiritual and historical exodus, displacement, solitude and isolation.
