WU-P’s VHINSON GARCIA Tops October 2016 CPA

Vhinson Jay Samson Garcia, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of BS in Accountancy at Wesleyan University – Philippines, Cabanatuan City, ranked first in the October 2016 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exams. The results of the exams were released on October 20, 2016 by the Board of Accountancy of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) nine (9) days after the last day of the exams which were concluded last October 11, 2016.

Of the 14,390 examinees across the country, there are 5,249 who successfully passed the exams which sealed 36.48 percent in the national passing rate of which Garcia grabbed the top place setting a personal record of 94.33 percent. WU-P produced its first Top 1 in CPA Board Exams 30 years ago when Leo Vasco Dagamac ranked 1 in the 1986 CPA. However, there were other graduates who clinched in various places in the topnotchers, but two have recorded a history for the University.

Garcia, 20 years old from San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, graduated only May of this year and took his review at CPA Review (CPAR) Center prior to taking the CPA Board Exams. He is a son of Mr. Vic Garcia and Mrs. Lorna Samson.

Dr. Ma. Victoria Mones-Cruz, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy of WU-P, was very glad about the performance of Garcia as she herself had been impressed with his academic credentials during his four years of stint in the University. “It is overwhelming. This is definitely a historic moment. Since the beginning, Vhinson has been a very promising student, and he delivered on that promise with flying colors. We always knew he would do great things somewhere in the future, and I'm so glad that he just did. This goes to show that we're on the right track in implementing new techniques for continually enhancing our methods of instruction. Let this be an incentive to everyone to keep pushing the limits, to innovate new models of training the next generation. I am so proud of him. I am so proud of our professors. I feel so proud, as a mother would” remarked Dr. Mones-Cruz.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Estrella C. Buenaventura, cannot keep her delight as she extended her congratulations to Garcia, saying that “you (Garcia) should stay being humble and the good values inculcated by WU-P should always be reflected in your undertakings. Don’t forget your roots, and the Lord who gave you wisdom and persistence, and may you be of great help to your siblings and parents. Continue to dream bigger. I believe that you have set the best motivation for other students and the succeeding board exam takers to strive and study harder for them to reach their goals.” She also has a message of congratulations to the proud parents for having a son like Vhinson. She said “you are the roots of the good breed like Vhinson.” With this achievement, she further challenged the faculty of WU-P to always keep on believing the students and embrace their talents and skills.

Hon. Pacifico B. Aniag, WU-P President, is very proud of Garcia. He said “Vhinson has given much pride and prestige for our University. Drawing strength and inspiration from his ordinary family, he has not set aside the struggles and sweat of his parents just to send him to school. Knowing that he had shown excellence in the different competitions he joined, I had hoped that he would indeed top the CPA board exams. He is another pride, after 30 years of having first produced a topnotcher."

When asked about how he felt being the top 1, Garcia humbly said “the feeling is overwhelming, the feeling that all my hard workings have been paid off.” Asked if he expected it, “I did not expect, but of course it is every taker’s wish.” by Allan B. Chavez
